Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
