Kellie Pickler is among "American Idol's" best graduates, even though she didn't win the show's title. Her birth name was Kellie Dawn Pickler, on the 28th of June 1986 in Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. At the time of her pregnancy her mother was already aged 16. It was a difficult childhood for Pickler as her father battled in addiction with alcohol and substances and her mother had to leave her as she was just two. Morton took Pickler's custody for two years. Pickler stated that the situation was unsettling. "I recall my mother as well as me at the same table, and I told her 'I'd rather die than be there with you. I wish God could take me away.' She took out a knife, placed it on the countertop, and informed me that, "Here, you do it." The fourth grade was when she learned this. It's unfortunate that I did not act on it. But, it did leave a lasting emotional scar. Pickler aged twelve years old, was given to her parents after the court hearing. Pickler was raised by her maternal grandmothers through her lifetime. She cites them as being among the most influential persons within her lifetime. The grandmother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in January of 2002, and her children were to be raised by her grandfather. Pickler has graduated from North Stanly High School, located in New London (North Carolina).
